Week 5:
This week in English, we started our new unit of writing which is a focus on non-chronological reports. The children explored some different examples of these types of reports and studied their features e.g headings, subheadings and ‘amazing/fun fact’ boxes. The children also explored new vocabulary when reading a non-chronological report about the Stone Age.
In Maths, we focused on multiplication and division this week. The children learned how to write repeated addition and multiplication sentences about pictorial representations e.g If there are 3 plates with 5 cookies on each, the repeated addition sentence would be 5 + 5 + 5 = 15 cookies and the multiplication sentence would be 3 x 5 = 15. The children also learned about different division strategies, including drawing sharing circles to share the number or using their times table knowledge to support with answering these questions.
In History, the children started to learn about the Iron Age and how things changed and improved from the previous ages. They also learned about farming and how this changed during the Iron Age.
In RE, the children learned about prayer. They learned that Jewish people say prayers of gratitude throughout the day and thanked God for all the positive things in their life. We discussed what we are grateful for e.g our families and friends. The children created a mind map of lots of different examples.
