Week 3

This week in English, the children have started to write their own ending to the story ‘The Stone Age Boy’. They used their imagination creatively and focused on using interesting sentence openers.  The children also made a great effort to include interesting adjectives to describe their characters and settings, bringing their ideas to life.

In Maths, we focused on learning different strategies for solving addition and subtraction questions. The children practised using mental strategies e.g if they spot any number bonds in the question e.g 134 + 6 = (4 and 6 are number bonds to 10). Then, we moved onto practising solving calculations by drawing Dienes and also using a 100 square. Towards the end of the week, the children practised using the column method to solve questions e.g 135 + 23. They needed to make sure that they lined the numbers up correctly underneath each other and remember to start adding or subtracting from the ones column.

In History, the children learned about everyday life in the Bronze Age, including what homes were like, what they ate and wore. The children made comparisons between everyday life in the Bronze Age and Stone Age. The children also learnt about how the discovery of metal changed the way that people lived in the Bronze Age.

In RE, the children learned about the Jewish celebration of passover. They learnt about the important meal that they eat during this time and the significance of all the foods in the meal.

In PSHE, the children learned about what it means to be respectful and how that translates to school life as well as when at home and in other situations.

Reminders:

Home  learning is given out (on paper) every Monday and must be returned on the following Monday.  Please encourage your child to read at least x3 weekly and write in reading records.

P.E days are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please ensure earrings have been taken out.
