Shark’s Weekly Blog (Autumn 1 week 2)

This week, the children have continued to settle well into Year 2 and are thoroughly enjoying our continuous provision set-up. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they explore and engage with the different learning opportunities available.

In Maths, we have continued our work on place value, focusing on representing tens and ones in a variety of ways. The children used both pictorial and abstract methods to show their understanding and were able to explain their thinking clearly. We also tackled some problem-solving questions, where the children demonstrated excellent reasoning skills as they worked through different challenges.

In English, we began our new narrative unit based on The Couch Potato, which links closely to our Healthy Humans topic. We have focused on using the conjunction "and" to join the Couch Potato's lazy activities! The children impressed us with their ability to orally rehearse their sentences before writing them. They then worked together to construct sentences and finally had the opportunity to apply their learning independently.

In PE, we started our gymnastics lessons. The children explored different types of jumps and practised a variety of ways to travel safely and creatively. They showed great enthusiasm and were keen to demonstrate their new skills.

In PSHE, we worked together to create our class rules for the year. The children shared thoughtful ideas about how we can make our classroom a happy, safe and respectful place for everyone. We are confident that the children will do their very best to follow these rules and make positive choices throughout the year.

As always- we look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead!
