Autumn 1, Week 2 Monkeys Class Blog
Date: 12th Sep 2025 @ 8:37am
This week, the children read and explored the text, ‘The Stone Age Boy’. It is a story about a little boy who travels back in time to the Stone Age. The children picked out new, exciting vocabulary and learned about the features that make the story exciting to read e.g adjectives and sentence starters. They also explored other 'time travel' texts e.g The Wizard of Oz, Narnia and Platform 9 ¾ in Harry Potter.
In Maths, the children learned how to partition a three-digit number into hundreds, tens and ones. They also learned to order numbers from largest to smallest (descending order) and smallest to largest (ascending order). They also recapped how to use the ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’ symbols to compare numbers. The children also practised counting in 2s, 5s and used their 10 times table knowledge to help them count in 100s.
In History this week, the children learned about everyday life in the Stone Age, including how they cooked, hunted and how they lived in caves at the beginning of the Stone Age. The children also learned about Stone Age tools and how they improved during the Stone Age. The children learned about Stone Age settlements and explored 'Skara Brae', doing a virtual tour of the site. They also looked at pictures of what the roundhouses would have looked like in the Neolithic period.
In RE, the children learned about Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, which are Jewish festivals. The children compared how Jewish people celebrate new year compared to the way they/their families do.
In PSHE, the children learned about good manners and carried out some different scenarios, discussing how they’d show good manners in certain situations.
The children will be receiving home learning this week. Please support them in completing their tasks and return the work before Thursday 18th September.
When the children recieve their Ipads, they will be able to take weekly AR quizzes. Until then, please read you child's book with them at home and record all reading in their reading record diary. We are encouraging the children to read at least 3 times a week.
Thank you for your support.
