Home Learning - Reigate's systems explained

Home Learning at Reigate Park 

 

At Reigate Park Primary Academy, we believe that Home Learning is an important aspect of a child’s education.  

We believe it encourages children to realise that learning can take place outside of the classroom as well as promoting independent learning; thus encouraging the child to take great responsibility for their personal progress.  

Home learning enables parents/carers and the school to work in partnership for the benefit of their child. The amount and type of home learning given is at a level which we believe to be reasonable and manageable.  

We value the support of parents/carers and we believe that the Home Learning Policy will be successful if there is a strong partnership between home and school which is reflected in the Home-School Agreement.  

We recognise that all children need leisure time and hope that our policy reflects a balance so that children can extend and consolidate their learning with parental support while still allowing ‘down time’.  

When the children have been on a trip or a visitor has been in to school the home learning tasks may vary in response to these.   

Homework is given on a regular basis across the school in line with the table below: 

Year Group 

Tasks/Activities/Subject Areas:  

Our expectations are that: 

Nursery 

A maths and phonic activity will be sent home every week which is based around the learning the children have completed during the week. 

Reception 

Reading at least three times a week. We will also send home copies of story maps, word folders, numbers to practise and other activities. 

Year 1 

Daily reading. Links to websites to access activities that link to learning in school are sent home. A topic-based piece of homework each half term - e.g. a design & make project, research, poster. 

Year 2 

Daily reading. Spellings are sent home weekly. A weekly maths task will be sent home linked to the unit learned that week. Times tables to practise. A topic-based piece of homework each half term - e.g. a design & make project, research, poster. 

Year 3 

Daily reading. Weekly spellings. Weekly maths task linked to the week’s learning. Times tables to practise A topic-based piece of homework each half term - e.g. a design & make project, research, poster. 

Year 4 

Daily reading. Weekly spellings Times tables to practise. A topic-based piece of homework each half term - e.g. a design & make project, research, poster. 

Year 5 

Daily reading Weekly Spellings A topic-based piece of homework each half term - e.g. a design & make project, research, poster. 

Year 6 

Daily reading. Weekly spellings Either a maths or reading comprehension sent home weekly. A topic-based piece of homework each half term - e.g. a design & make project, research, poster
